Marit McCaffery is the daughter of Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery. She and her older brothers Connor and Patrick compete at the college level in both basketball and baseball.

McCaffery led Siena to a record 20-win season and the program’s first ever MAAC Tournament Championship. Prior to joining the Saints, McCaffery spent six seasons at UNC Greensboro.

Her Siblings

As a child, Marit McCaffery was exposed to the world of basketball. Her parents were also into the game. They took their children to watch sports games and even to practice sessions with the Siena players. This made her brother Connor and daughter Marit feel very attached to the game of basketball.

When she was at Iowa City West High School, she earned several awards. She even won a state championship with her team. Her father Fran has been coaching in the college game for decades. He has managed to take his teams to the NCAA tournament several times.

In the future, Marit hopes to be a part of the Hawkeyes baseball team. She has two elder brothers and one younger brother who are also into the game of basketball. Fran was named the Big Ten’s top defensive coach in 2022, and he has a winning record at Iowa, including five wins over ranked opponents.

Before coaching at Iowa, he was the youngest Division I head coach in history at Lehigh, where his teams compiled a 49-39 record over three seasons and reached the NCAA Tournament twice. He led the Engineers to two winning seasons and a 21-win season in his final year with the team, a mark that still stands as a school record.
