John Amos was born in New Jersey and grew up with big dreams of playing football. He attended East Orange High School and later graduated from Long Beach City College and Colorado State University.

Amos is best known for his roles as Gordy Howard (the weatherman on the Mary Tyler Moore Show) and James Evans, Sr., the husband of Florida Evans, in 61 episodes of Good Times. He also starred in movies such as Coming to America and Die Hard 2.

Born in Newark, New Jersey

John Amos is a jack of all trades who is a master at several different skills. He honed his football skills in high school and college, and even tried out for the Denver Broncos in the NFL before deciding to pursue acting instead. He is also a philanthropist and works hard to help those in need.

In his spare time, he enjoys surfing, scuba diving, and hiking. He has two children and is a veteran of the New Jersey National Guard’s 50th Armored Division. He also founded the Halley’s Comet Foundation, a charitable organization that “aims to make a lasting impact on today’s youth.”

He started his career in 1970, when he appeared as Gordy Howard, the weatherman, in the television show The Mary Tyler Moore Show. His stage debut was in 1971, when he starred in the drama Norman, Is That You? He received a nomination for Best Actor from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle.

He has been nominated for a number of awards, including an Emmy and three Television Land Awards. He has also appeared as a recurring character in the television show All About the Andersons. He is the father of Shannon Amos, a director, producer, and writer, and K.C. Amos, an actor and director.

Died in Westcliffe, Colorado

The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 23rd at the Mullare-Murphy Funeral Home in Westcliffe. She is survived by her sons, Daniel and Donald Hambrick and their wives Christa and Peg, of Denver; grandchildren Claire Simoglou and husband Christopher of Eastchester NY, Jennifer Lynch and husband Dru Lynch of State College PA; great-grandchildren, Leslie and Mark of Trinidad; sister, Aline Wicken Hale and husband George of Trinidad; brothers, John and Richard Hale of Colorado Springs; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Aline loved putzin around her yard and enjoyed a good hunt or fishing trip. She also liked to cook for her friends and family. One of her favorite places to hunt was in the mountains above Durango. Aline often came home with a deer or an elk that she had hunted.

Aline grew up in East Orange, New Jersey and graduated from high school in 1958. She then attended Long Beach City College and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in social work. She went on to attend Metro State in Denver and earned her Master’s degree in Agency Counseling. She worked for Presbyterian St. Lukes and later moved to Southern Colorado where she worked for Spanish Peaks Mental Health, Crossroads, and her own counseling business.

Married three times

John Amos is a well-known American actor who has acted in many high-grossing movies and TV shows. He is also a philanthropist. He has two children from his first marriage to artist and equestrian Noel Amos. His daughter, Shannon Amos is a writer and producer. He is also a director. His son K.C. Amos is a Grammy nominated director. His family lives in Tewksbury Township, New Jersey.

Amos began his acting career in 1970, playing Gordy Howard the weatherman on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. He then played James Evans Sr on Good Times, appearing in 61 episodes from 1974 to 1976. Amos disagreed with the writers on the character’s stereotypical buffoonishness, such as his catchphrases and funny walk, fearing the show was turning into a weekly minstrel show.

After his success on Good Times, Amos concentrated on theater work and wrote a one-man show called Halley’s Comet, touring the country with it. He also took a number of guest appearances on television, including roles as Fred Wilkes in the sitcom 704 Hauser Street and Admiral Percy Fitzwallace in The West Wing. He also appeared as a recurring character on Two and a Half Men. In addition, he has been in several films, including The Beastmaster, Die Hard 2, and Lock Up.
