Born Alfredo James Pacino in New York City on April 25, 1940, Al Pacino is a famous actor who has made his mark in the movie industry. He has been a part of many hit films and has received multiple awards and nominations in his career.
As a child, Pacino dreamed of becoming a baseball player but eventually left home and started pursuing his acting career. He attended HB Studio and studied under Charlie Laughton and Lee Strasberg.
He was discovered by Francis Ford Coppola and he was cast to play Michael Corleone in The Godfather (1972). The film was a commercial success and earned Pacino an Academy Award for Best Actor.
After the success of The Godfather, Pacino continued his career with such films as Scarecrow (1973), Serpico (1974) and Dog Day Afternoon (1975). These were some of his best roles and they are still remembered today.
The next decade saw him star in a variety of crime dramas. His portrayal of a blind lieutenant in Scent of a Woman (1992) won him an Oscar. He also starred in the gangster film Carlito’s Way (1993) and the detective drama Heat (1996).
In 1999, he appeared in The Insider, a film based on real-life events that examines the efforts of tobacco companies to conceal the dangers of their products. He was also featured in the supernatural thriller The Devil’s Advocate (1997) and Oliver Stone’s football classic Any Given Sunday (1999).
In addition to his film career, Pacino has also had a successful stage career. He has starred in several Off-Broadway plays. He is a two-time Tony Award winner for his performances in Does a Tiger Wear a Necktie and The Basic Training of Pavlo Hummel.

His subsequent performances in Sea of Love (1989), Frankie and Johnny (1991), and Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) reestablished him as a major film star.

He also portrayed Jack Kevorkian, a doctor who assisted in the suicide of terminally ill patients.
In 2021, he starred in Ridley Scott’s House of Gucci, a movie about the murder of the designer Maurizio Gucci. He also acted in American Traitor: The Trial of Axis Sally, which was based on the true story of Mildred Gillars, a radio propagandist for the Nazis during World War II. His performance in the movie earned him a 10th Oscar nomination.
