The daughter of Ray Kroc, Marilyn Kroc Barg was a businesswoman and philanthropist. She played a significant role in the success of McDonald’s, especially with their philanthropic efforts.
She was born to Raymond Albert Kroc and Ethel Janet Fleming in October 1924. She married twice, first to Sylvester Nordly Nelson at age 24 in 1949 and then James W. Barg in 1960.

Ray Kroc was a businessman who helped transform McDonald’s into a global fast food giant. The company had 7,500 outlets in the United States and 31 other countries and territories at the time of his retirement.
Kroc married two other women after he divorced his first wife, Ethel Fleming. Their forty-year marriage ended in 1961 because of differences in opinions about the business.
Marilyn Kroc was the only child from these marriages. She was born in 1924 and died at age 48.
She was a philanthropist and a great supporter of a variety of causes, including the promotion of peace and nuclear non-proliferation. Her views earned her the ire of some conservative commentators.
She also gave her name to a 12-acre Salvation Army community center that was built in San Diego. Its Olympic-sized pool, ice rink, and concert hall were all paid for by her. She remained a philanthropist until her death in 2003.

Her donations to different charities included $1.5 billion for the Salvation Army, $225 million for National Public Radio (NPR), $60 million for Ronald McDonald House Charities and $50 million for the Kroc Institute at Notre Dame. Her philanthropic efforts were truly remarkable.

She was a very successful businesswoman and also an influential philanthropist. She helped set up Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The organization was designed to help sick children from financially disadvantaged families and also accommodate their parents who are receiving medical treatment in hospitals.
She acted as a peace activist and was criticized for her activism by some of her political friends. But she was dismayed by the lack of action from politicians, especially those who supported the Iraq War.
She was a horsewoman
Marilyn Kroc Barg was a businesswoman, horse enthusiast and philanthropist. She was the daughter of renowned businessman Ray Kroc and his wife Ethel Fleming, an American actress and swimmer. She was one of the few Kroc daughters to survive her parent’s tumultuous marriage.
She was the first of her kin to attend college, a rare occurrence in her day and age. She earned her degrees in economics and business administration. Her academic prowess endeared her to her family and friends alike.
She was also a fan of horses, and swam and rodeoed around her home state of Illinois in the late nineteen fifties and early sixties. She remained active for many years, albeit with a few health issues. She passed away in 2003 at the relatively young age of 76. Listed on her death certificate as a resident of King of Prussia, PA, she was cremated. The above-mentioned aforementioned name also appeared on her funeral program.
