Religion

Religion is a set of beliefs and behaviors that distinguishes the sacred from the profane. It is a fundamental part of human nature. It is based on a shared worldview.

Historically, the concept of religion was used to define the social practices that united a group into a single moral community. Today, it is commonly taken to be a taxon for sets of social practices whose paradigmatic examples are the world religions of Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Daoism and so on.

The scientific study of religion, however, has shown that religious belief and practice can be quite beneficial for people. They can help poor individuals move out of poverty, encourage social inoculation against such problems as crime and divorce, and contribute to the formation of personal moral criteria. They also play a vital role in the repair of damage caused by such problems as alcoholism, drug addiction, out-of-wedlock births and suicide.

Family

Family is a group of people who share social, economic and cultural responsibilities. It is the smallest and most basic social unit, but it also has the biggest influence on a person’s life from birth to death.

The definition of family varies depending on the culture, but in general, it is an intimate and relatively permanent domestic group connected by blood, marriage or adoption that shares certain common social, economic and cultural responsibilities. It can be a large, extended family or it may only consist of one or two close relatives.
