Patty Gasso Salary

Patty Gasso’s Salary

Patty Gasso is a coach who has been at the helm of the University of Oklahoma’s softball team since 1995. She’s won four national championships with the Sooners and remains one of the most successful coaches in college sports.

She recently signed a record contract extension that keeps her at the helm through 2028. This bumps her salary to a cool $1.625 million per year, making her the highest paid college softball coach in the country.

1. Base salary

Patty Gasso was the highest-paid college softball coach when she signed her contract extension in 2017. Her base salary jumped to $280,000, while private sources of funding for fundraising, promotions and personal services increased by $445,000, according to the university.

The NFCA Hall of Fame coach was also awarded a retention bonus of $200,000. This year, her total compensation is $1.625 million annually.

Among the highest-paid coaches in all sports, she ranks second only to Vanderbilt’s Tim Corbin. OU athletic director Joe Castiglione said, “She’s the queen.”

The boost comes in the wake of back-to-back national titles, which made her one of the most successful coaches in NCAA history. She also helped OU secure $9 million in funds to build Love’s Field, the Sooners’ new softball stadium that will break ground this fall. This is a significant investment in a program that needs to be competitive on a regular basis. It’s money well spent. IMO, Gasso should receive more than just a $5,000 raise.

2. Performance bonus

During her illustrious 24 seasons as the University of Oklahoma softball coach, Patty Gasso has amassed an impressive bonanza. Her base salary is the lion’s share, but she is also in the black when it comes to unrestricted private funds that have no strings attached. The best part about this jumbo sized pay packet is that it will stay that way for the foreseeable future. With the generous benefits that come with a high-roller lifestyle, it’s no wonder Gasso has never had to look for a job after her current gig.

In addition to the ol’ fashioned bump in base pay, she also has taken home several other accolades including two collegiate national championships and one of the most decorated head coaches in NCAA history. During her time in Norman, she’s won nine conference titles and six NCAA tournament berths.

3. Retirement fund

The University of Oklahoma has just announced a new contract for their head softball coach, Patty Gasso. The deal will see her rake in a cool $1.625 million per year by 2028, making her the highest paid coach in the NCAA.

The new contract will give her a base salary of $300,000, plus an additional $825,000 from private funds, which will increase in size every year. In addition, Gasso will receive a stay bonus of $200,000 and a retirement fund that will grow by the time she retires in July 2023.

The most important part of her new deal is that it is a family affair, with her son JT helping out on the coaching side and her daughter DJ by her side as well. They all live in Norman, Oklahoma, and enjoy a close relationship with Bob Stoops, who has become an expert on all things sports during his tenure as head coach of the Sooners.

4. Stay bonus

After winning back-to-back national championships and raising the funds needed for OU to build Love’s Field, Oklahoma softball coach Patty Gasso has gotten a pay raise that will make her the highest paid college softball coach in the country. The Sooners coach’s salary will jump to $1.625 million in 2023, according to Eric Bailey of Tulsa World.

This new deal will pay Gasso a base salary of $300,000 that will be paid by the university, as well as $825,000 from private sources of funding. That number will increase by $50,000 every year, and it already represents a huge increase over her previous contract extension, which was worth more than $1 million.

The stay bonus is a nice little perk that was added to the deal, and it will pay her an additional $200,000. It was previously only $25,000. If Oklahoma wins a third-consecutive national title in 2023, she’ll receive a performance bonus of $150,000. She also gets a retirement fund of $300,000 that will grow to $400,000 in July 2023.
