Back to the Future

After Family Ties and Back to the Future, Fox starred in another hit ABC sitcom that earned him three Golden Globe awards and four Emmys. It’s Spin City, a clever workplace comedy about New York City deputy mayor Michael Flaherty (Fox).
The show, created by Gary David Goldberg and Bill Lawrence, was an early success for ABC, and featured a fine cast of once and future TV stars as City Hall employees. Connie Britton played a sex-obsessed mayoral aide, Alan Ruck was the lamebrained press secretary, and Carla Gugino was a sexy beat reporter who shares a bed with Flaherty.
As the symptoms of his Parkinson’s disease got worse, Fox decided to leave the show in 2000 and concentrate on a career that focused on Parkinson’s research and awareness. He also started a charity called The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, which has raised over $80 million in its 20 years of existence.

His mother, Phyllis (nee Piper) was an actress and a payroll clerk. He grew up to be a very slim and healthy man who credits his good health to his genes as well as to his wife, Tracy Pollan.
When he’s not acting, Fox is a philanthropist and a supporter of Parkinson’s research. He was diagnosed with the condition in 1998 and has fought through it ever since, becoming an advocate for its cause. He has received numerous awards and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
