Hope Solo in a Bikini
Two-time Olympic gold medalist Hope Solo has a lot to celebrate after her riveting performance at the Women’s World Cup. Her rise has catapulted her into the public eye as a pop culture fixture.
The American star has also used her notoriety to parlay into a lucrative career. She’s landed a spot on the hit TV show Dancing With The Stars and has become a fan favorite.
ESPN Body Issue
Hope Solo, the American star of the women’s national soccer team, is one of the most intriguing athletes in the sporting world. She has a big following on social media and is a popular figure in her sports community.
She is an inspiration to young people everywhere. Her career has changed drastically this year, and she is gaining more attention. Her appearance on Dancing with the Stars has also made her a celebrity.
The ESPN Body Issue first debuted in 2009, and it immediately became a cultural force. The magazine created a space for athletes to share their stories with the public.
It is now a popular platform for them to share their experiences with race, gender, sexuality, and more. With hate crimes on the rise, more people need to see themselves reflected in media.
In 2009, Alison Overholt saw a body diversity-centered shoot for a different magazine, and she instantly knew she wanted to bring the idea to ESPN Magazine. She got Serena Williams and Dwight Howard to agree to pose nude for the magazine, and soon, other celebrities were signing on as well.
In this year’s issue, athletes show off their ripped physiques and their love for fitness. From New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees to Olympic gymnast Simone Biles, these athletes bare it all for ESPN. They prove that having a strong, healthy body is a worthy accomplishment.
ESPN The MAG
When it comes to the magazine industry, ESPN The MAG’s annual Body Issue stands out as one of the most unique and interesting releases on the print calendar. It is a celebration of athleticism, featuring an array of athletes in the most diverse sports imaginable.
The hefty package contains photos of all types of body shapes, sizes and strengths. There are a handful of notable women, including basketball star Hayden Panettiere and tennis superstar Serena Williams, as well as some notable men, like Prince Fielder and Gus Kenworthy.
There’s also a fair amount of nudity, in the form of a few “naked” sports stars, as well as a few more hunky models. But the real standout of this year’s edition is the newest addition to the ESPN The MAG stable: goalkeeper Hope Solo.
She may not be the most recognized woman in soccer, but her career highlights include her role as a gaolkeeper on the United States’ Women’s National Team and her time at magicJack, a popular WPS franchise that she helped kickstart with a come-from-behind win in the 2011 World Cup.
Whether or not she’ll actually pull off a bikini-clad shot for the magazine’s 2010 special issue remains to be seen. However, the tweet about her being featured in the Body Issue is certainly an exciting one to see, and should be considered a major contender for this year’s most buzzed about release.
Sports Illustrated
Sports Illustrated is a venerable magazine that has been in print since August 1954 and is known for its famous photography. It is America’s favorite one-stop source for sports news and expert analysis.
It is widely regarded as the most popular and influential sports magazine in the world. It has a readership of over 3 million and is published by Time Warner, the largest media company in the United States.
The magazine’s iconic cover, a night-time baseball game between the Milwaukee Braves and New York Giants, is one of the most successful and visually stunning images in all of journalism. It’s also a great example of the kind of editorial innovation that helped turn SI into the leading publication for middle-class American sports fans, as well as a model for other media companies.
Andre Laguerre, a Frenchman, was hired as the magazine’s second managing editor in 1956 and quickly won over many of the staff members with his innovative ideas. One of his most important contributions was the introduction of a segment honoring unknown athletes called Faces in the Crowd, which helped establish SI as a voice for the masses.
Its annual Swimsuit Issue has long featured thin and busty bikini-clad models on its covers, but this year the magazine is hoping to change the conversation around beauty by featuring a diverse group of women. It did this by presenting a runway show that included women of all shapes, sizes and ages Saturday at the Mondrian Hotel in Miami.
