He was born in 1955
Inventor, businessman, philanthropist, and co-founder of the world’s biggest software company, Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955 in Seattle, Washington. His parents, William H. Gates II, a prominent lawyer and Mary Maxwell Gates, worked as teachers before they had children.
When Bill Gates was in middle school he started to learn about computers, and he became interested in programming. In the seventh grade he was sent to an exclusive private high school called Lakeside School in Seattle.
In that school he met Paul Allen, a classmate who had a similar interest in computers and who would become his business partner. After graduation, they launched their own software company together, Micro-Soft.
They built the company by combining their skills in computer programming and business strategy, and aggressive competitive tactics. As a result, they amassed a fortune and made a huge impact on the technology industry. Now, Gates is one of the richest people on the planet and he still serves as chairman, CEO and chief software architect of Microsoft.
He has two sisters
Bill Gates has two sisters, Kristianne and Libby, who are both high achievers in their own fields. Their father was a lawyer, and their mother was a teacher and businesswoman.
They grew up in Seattle with their mother and attended public elementary school, Lakeside School, and Harvard University. While at Harvard, he discovered his love of computers and began programming them.
Gates and his family are committed to philanthropy, and they’ve set up the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They’re also credited with founding the Giving Pledge, which urges wealthy individuals and families to donate more than half of their wealth to philanthropic causes.
Their eldest daughter, Jennifer Gates, is a medical student at Stanford University. She is also a professional show jumper and a lover of horse-back riding.
Their youngest daughter, Phoebe Gates, is also a college student and has a passion for science. She lives with her parents in their US$124 million lakefront eco-mansion nicknamed Xanadu 2.0.
He has a mixed ancestry
Bill gates son has a mixed ancestry, including English, German and Scots-Irish. He is a descendant of Stephen Gates and Anne Neave, a couple from Suffolk, England who were married in the early 17th century.
He is also a descendant of Jonas Halstead, who was born in 1611 and is believed to have been a mill owner in Halifax.
Despite being one of the wealthiest people in the world, Bill Gates is also a philanthropist and committed to improving the lives of those in need. He has made significant donations to the development of vaccines for children, especially against polio.

He is more reserved than his siblings
Gates is a reserved boy who is rarely seen in public. According to his mother, Melinda French Gates, he is compassionate and curious. She wrote an essay for Time magazine in 2018, describing him as “an intelligent and well-read young man deeply informed about the wide range of issues that interest him.”
His parents were active in community work and philanthropy, making sure they got their kids involved as well. They also gave their son a significant amount of independence, so that he could decide which activities he wanted to participate in.
He believes in gender equality, and is a strong advocate for it. He even took a trip to Malawi with his parents in 2015, where he learned about a few men there who were challenging unjust gender roles. Melinda said that she was glad her son was born into a generation where men are encouraged to think critically about their place in society.
